What is self-carriage?

The concept of self-carriage refers to a horse being able to maintain its posture independently without relying on constant aids from the rider for support.

In order to accomplish this, the rider must also work towards their own聽self-carriage. This involves riders being light, sensitive, and in command of their movements. It's essential to sustain your posture without depending on the horse for support. Once you achieve this聽feeling you are one step closer in the pursuit of horsemanship.

Foundation Seat Classes are 30 minutes of exercises that offer a gentler practice for those coming back into training from a break, or recovering from an injury, or just want something thats a lower intensity. -$29/Month

Independent Seat Classes are 45 minute workouts that have more complex movement patters, with increased resistance, and are generally faster paced. Everyone is encouraged to move at their own pace during聽the classes. These classes are designed for riders that have been in consistent practice for a long time and are ready for more intense workouts as part of their weekly聽routine. -$49/Month

Hypopressives 12 Week Flow Classes聽Join Eckwood Equestrian's transformative 12-week Hypopressive courses, designed to enhance your posture, pelvic health, and breathing. Classes run every Monday and Friday from 8:00 to 8:50, with access to the supportive Self-Carriage Community. Our Basic Poses and Flow Classes, starting from May 2 to July 21, 2025, are 20 to 30-minute sessions aimed at rejuvenating your body. We meet together as a group once every 2聽weeks on Wednesdays to cover an area of anatomy, or discuss progress, to introduce or聽check-in on 30 day challenges, or learn a new pre-ride聽warmup. This is your place to connect, ask questions, or enjoy a pre-recorded bonus embodied exercise video.
